Is the domain transfer process reliable?

Yes, as said earlier in this article it is completly automated.

For how many days my website will be down?

For 0 Days. Well yes 0 days, but you need to do a trick for this.

Generally it takes around 2-3 days for transfer as Domain Name servers require this time to update themselves with new information.

The trick to avoid downtime during domain transfer

Before initiating domain transfer process, purchase web hosting account with new service provider, also map your domain name that you are going to transfer with web hosting account. Once you have the web hosting account, using your FTP account transfer all files & databases to new account.

After doing this, you are ready to transfer the domain. Initiate the transfer process, let your domain get transfer to new service provider. As your website files are hosted on both servers, despite of domain resolving to any server (new or old) user will always see your site up and running.

When I should transfer my domain?

If you want to 0 days down time, make sure you  transfer the domain at leats 10-15 days before your expiration of both domain and web hosting account. If you have only domain and not web hosting , just transfer before 10-15 days before expiration of it.

You can not transfer the domain in following circumstances

ICANN & Registry regulations prohibit the transfer of domain names that have been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 Days. Please wait for 60 days from the date of registration or previous transfer before applying for a transfer of such domain names.

Care to take while transfering domains

If your domain expired with your old Registrar, and you renewed it with them, then do not Transfer it within 45 days of the previous expiry date since it will not add 1 more year to your domain name, and you will lose out on the Renewal fees paid to the older Registrar.

We hope that we have solved questions that may arise in your mind when you are willing to transfer a domain.
